Wired glass replacement means removing old Georgian or polished wired glass from doors, screens and panels and fitting modern fire-resistant glass that keeps the fire rating while meeting today's impact safety expectations. Wired glass holds together in a fire because of the mesh, but plain wired glass usually lacks an impact safety classification and can cause serious injuries when broken by impact.
We cover March and the surrounding postcode districts, including PE15. Nearby towns we also serve include Wisbech, Ely, Peterborough. Peterborough, around 23 km from March, is the largest town in the same coverage area.
Doors, side panels and low-level glazing in busy corridors, sports halls and schools are usually replaced first.
Old frames may not have evidence for modern fire glass. We assess them and recommend frame replacement where the evidence cannot be established.
We can replace wired glass over holidays, weekends or zone by zone to keep the building running.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.
If an existing frame in a March building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.

It can provide integrity in the right frame, typically for 30 minutes and sometimes longer in tested systems, but it does not insulate, and plain wired glass usually lacks an impact safety classification.
There is no blanket ban, but glazing in critical locations must meet impact safety rules, and duty holders must manage the risk. Replacement is often the practical answer.
