Insulated Fire Glass (EI)
EI 30 to EI 120 glass that blocks heat as well as flames.
Learn more →From the ME2 district outwards, we arrange fire-resistant glass for buildings across Strood, matching glass, frames and seals to tested evidence rather than guesswork.
Tell us what you need. We reply with next steps and a guide price.
We supply and fit fire-resistant glass into new and existing fire-rated frames, matching the glass type, thickness, beads, seals and fixings to the test or assessment evidence for that frame. The glass on its own does not carry a rating; the combination does, so we start every job by identifying the system you have or need.
The fire strategy or building control drawings set the rating for each element. Integrity-only glass is cheaper and thinner, but its use on escape routes is restricted; insulating glass carries far fewer restrictions because people can pass it safely during a fire.
Glass in doors, side panels and low-level positions has to meet impact safety rules as well as the fire rating. Most modern fire glass carries an impact classification; old wired glass usually does not.
Insulating fire glass gets thicker and heavier as the rating rises. Large EI 60 and EI 120 panes often need lifting equipment and a frame designed for the load, which we plan before the delivery date.
Whether the building is in central Strood or the wider ME2, ME1, ME4 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham. Strood lies roughly 14 km from Maidstone, within our Kent coverage.
If an existing frame in a Strood building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
You receive the classification references, glass marks and installation photographs for your fire safety records.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
Fire-resistant glass applies to many building types in Strood, including blocks of flats and care homes.
Our service is supply and installation, because the rating depends on how the glass is fitted. For trade buyers we can quote supply of cut-to-size panes with the matching glazing materials on request.
Integrity glass can be similar in thickness to standard glass. Insulating glass is laminated from several layers, so it gets markedly thicker and heavier as the rating increases from EI 30 to EI 120.
Yes. We plan phasing, out-of-hours work and temporary protection so the building can stay in use where the fire strategy allows.
