We supply and fit fire-resistant glass into new and existing fire-rated frames, matching the glass type, thickness, beads, seals and fixings to the test or assessment evidence for that frame. The glass on its own does not carry a rating; the combination does, so we start every job by identifying the system you have or need.
Many insulating fire glasses use interlayers that need protecting from UV and moisture, so external positions need a product approved for exterior use, with the right edge seal and glazing system.
Glass in doors, side panels and low-level positions has to meet impact safety rules as well as the fire rating. Most modern fire glass carries an impact classification; old wired glass usually does not.
No. A frame is only rated with the glass types and pane sizes it was tested or assessed with. We check the frame's evidence before quoting, and if the existing frame is unknown we say so and price the options.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
Whether the building is in central Chatham or the wider ME4, ME7, ME5, ME1, ME2 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Gillingham, Rochester, Strood. Chatham is about 13 km from Maidstone, the largest town in our Kent coverage.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Chatham budgets are not open-ended.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Every quote in Chatham identifies the tested system: frame, glass, beads, seals and fixings, within its pane-size limits.
We can survey and quote for schools and colleges, industrial units and other building types in Chatham.
Often, yes. We read the marks on the existing panes and check them against the frame evidence. Where the original product is discontinued we look for an alternative covered by the same evidence or a formal assessment.
E is integrity only: it stops flames and hot gases passing for the rated time. EW adds a limit on radiated heat through the glass. EI adds insulation, keeping the unexposed face below set temperature rises so people can pass it safely. The number after the letters is the time in minutes.
Survey timing in Chatham depends on access, the size of the building and how urgent the defect is. Tell us your deadline when you enquire and we will confirm a date before you commit.
