Wellington fire-rated curtain walling

For Wellington buildings, we supply, replace and check fire-rated curtain walling wherever the fire strategy depends on it, working to the tested system rather than the glass alone.

Fire-Rated Curtain Walling in Wellington: what's included

Fire-rated curtain walling is a glazed facade system tested to resist fire, used where an external wall has to stop fire spreading to a neighbouring building, between floors, or past a protected stair or lobby. It combines facade performance, such as weather tightness and thermal values, with a fire classification.

  • Spandrel and opaque panel coordination
  • External-grade fire glass
  • Fire-rated zones within mixed facades
  • Tested fire-rated curtain wall systems

Before you order fire-rated curtain walling: what matters

Combustibility rules

In England, materials in the external walls of relevant buildings 18 metres or more in height are restricted. We coordinate with the facade designer on every component.

Slab edges

The gap between the curtain wall and each floor slab needs fire-stopping designed with the facade, not added afterwards.

External-grade glass

External fire glass must be suitable for UV and weather exposure, usually in a sealed double-glazed unit with the fire pane positioned as tested.

Fire glazing rules in England

England Which rules apply?

Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.

Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.

In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.

Fire-Rated Curtain Walling: Wellington questions

When does curtain walling need to be fire-rated?

Typically where the facade is near a boundary, where it encloses a protected stair or lobby, or where fire spread between floors has to be controlled. The fire strategy sets the requirement.

Do you work on high-rise buildings?

We can supply and install on taller buildings where the project has the required approvals, and we provide evidence suitable for the Building Safety Regulator in England.

Do you carry out fire-rated curtain walling in Wellington?

Yes. We survey and install in Wellington and across Shropshire, including the TF1 district and nearby Telford.

Do you work on occupied buildings in Wellington?

Yes. We plan phasing, out-of-hours work and temporary protection so the building can stay in use where the fire strategy allows.
