Fire-rated curtain walling is a glazed facade system tested to resist fire, used where an external wall has to stop fire spreading to a neighbouring building, between floors, or past a protected stair or lobby. It combines facade performance, such as weather tightness and thermal values, with a fire classification.
Survey visits can be arranged anywhere in Bridgend, including the CF31, CF32, CF35 districts, and in nearby Maesteg, Tonypandy, Rhondda. Bridgend is about 19 km from Rhondda, the largest town in our Mid Glamorgan coverage.
Fire-rated units can still meet thermal targets when specified correctly; we confirm U-values with the system supplier.
External walls close to a boundary may need to be fire-resisting with limited unprotected areas. Fixed glazing that meets the wall's full fire-resistance requirement, including insulation where required, is not counted as unprotected area, so it can let you keep glass in those positions.
The gap between the curtain wall and each floor slab needs fire-stopping designed with the facade, not added afterwards.
Building regulations are devolved in Wales, so fire safety design follows the Welsh Ministers' version of Approved Document B rather than the English one, alongside impact safety guidance for glazing.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 applies in Wales, so the responsible person must maintain fire-resisting glazing as part of the premises' fire safety measures. The Fire Safety Act 2021 confirmed this extends to the structure, external walls and flat entrance doors of multi-occupied residential buildings.
Wales is introducing its own building safety regime for occupied residential buildings, so check current Welsh requirements before planning major works to blocks of flats.
If an existing frame in a Bridgend building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in Wales, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Bridgend budgets are not open-ended.
Fire-rated curtain walling applies to many building types in Bridgend, including industrial units and retail and leisure units.
