Integrity fire glass, classified E, stops flames and hot gases passing for the rated time but does not limit the heat coming through. EW glass adds a cap on the heat radiated through the glass. Both are thinner, lighter and cheaper than fully insulated glass.
Every quote in York identifies the tested system: frame, glass, beads, seals and fixings, within its pane-size limits.
If an existing frame in a York building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
EW glass limits radiation to 15 kW/m² measured one metre from the glass, reducing the risk of igniting materials or harming people nearby.
E glass gets hot in a fire. Furniture or stored materials beside it can ignite from radiated heat.
Integrity-only glass may be acceptable in some fire-resisting partitions, screens and doors, often at high level, within the limits national guidance sets. Compartment walls normally need insulating (EI) glazing.
We cover York and the surrounding postcode districts, including YO1, YO10, YO31, YO24. Nearby towns we also serve include Selby, Harrogate, Goole. York is the largest town in our North Yorkshire coverage.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
Integrity fire glass applies to many building types in York, including blocks of flats and student accommodation.
