What's involved with insulated fire glass in Llanelli
Insulated fire glass, classified EI, is glazing that maintains integrity and keeps the temperature rise on the non-fire side within set limits for the rated time. It is usually made of several glass panes bonded with interlayers that foam into an insulating barrier when heated, or with a clear gel that absorbs heat.

What to check before ordering insulated fire glass in Llanelli
Thickness and weight
Each step up in rating adds layers, so EI 120 is far thicker and heavier than EI 30. The frame has to be designed for it.
Storage on site
Insulating fire glass should be stored dry, upright and away from direct sun before fitting.
Optical quality
Modern EI glass is clear in normal use, with high light transmission at lower ratings.
Which rules apply to insulated fire glass in Llanelli?
Wales Which rules apply?
Building regulations are devolved in Wales, so fire safety design follows the Welsh Ministers' version of Approved Document B rather than the English one, alongside impact safety guidance for glazing.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 applies in Wales, so the responsible person must maintain fire-resisting glazing as part of the premises' fire safety measures. The Fire Safety Act 2021 confirmed this extends to the structure, external walls and flat entrance doors of multi-occupied residential buildings.
