Fire-resistant glass is glazing that has been tested, as part of a complete glazed system, to hold back fire for a set time. It is classified by what it stops: E (integrity) keeps flames and hot gases on the fire side, EW also limits the heat radiated through the glass, and EI (integrity and insulation) also limits the temperature rise on the protected side, so people can pass it more safely.
Most fire glass is permanently marked with its product and classification. We record the marks, pane sizes and evidence references on handover so whoever is responsible for fire safety can show what is installed.
Insulating fire glass gets thicker and heavier as the rating rises. Large EI 60 and EI 120 panes often need lifting equipment and a frame designed for the load, which we plan before the delivery date.
No. A frame is only rated with the glass types and pane sizes it was tested or assessed with. We check the frame's evidence before quoting, and if the existing frame is unknown we say so and price the options.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
Whether the building is in central Epsom or the wider KT17, KT19, KT21, KT9, SM3, SM7 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Ewell, Banstead, Sutton. Epsom is about 20 km from Woking, the largest town in our Surrey coverage.
Every quote in Epsom identifies the tested system: frame, glass, beads, seals and fixings, within its pane-size limits.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Epsom budgets are not open-ended.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
We can survey and quote for industrial units, care homes and other building types in Epsom.
E is integrity only: it stops flames and hot gases passing for the rated time. EW adds a limit on radiated heat through the glass. EI adds insulation, keeping the unexposed face below set temperature rises so people can pass it safely. The number after the letters is the time in minutes.
Integrity glass can be similar in thickness to standard glass. Insulating glass is laminated from several layers, so it gets markedly thicker and heavier as the rating increases from EI 30 to EI 120.
Yes. We survey and install in Epsom and across Surrey, including the KT17 district and nearby Ewell.
Yes. We plan phasing, out-of-hours work and temporary protection so the building can stay in use where the fire strategy allows.

We visit Epsom to measure, record existing marks and check the frames and substrate.
Your quote lists each item with its classification and the evidence it relies on.
We install, photograph seals and fixings before closing up, and hand over the schedule.
Send sizes, photos of any glass marks or your inspection report and we will come back with the right tested system.
