Insulated Fire Glass (EI)
EI 30 to EI 120 glass that blocks heat as well as flames.
Learn more →If a building in Tonbridge needs fire-resistant glass, the starting point is the rating its fire strategy requires. We confirm that, survey the openings and quote a tested system to suit.

Fire-resistant glass is glazing that has been tested, as part of a complete glazed system, to hold back fire for a set time. It is classified by what it stops: E (integrity) keeps flames and hot gases on the fire side, EW also limits the heat radiated through the glass, and EI (integrity and insulation) also limits the temperature rise on the protected side, so people can pass it more safely.
Whether the building is in central Tonbridge or the wider TN9, TN11, TN10, TN4 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Royal Tunbridge Wells, Sevenoaks, Crowborough. Maidstone, around 19 km from Tonbridge, is the largest town in the same coverage area.
Glass in doors, side panels and low-level positions has to meet impact safety rules as well as the fire rating. Most modern fire glass carries an impact classification; old wired glass usually does not.
Most fire glass is permanently marked with its product and classification. We record the marks, pane sizes and evidence references on handover so whoever is responsible for fire safety can show what is installed.
The fire strategy or building control drawings set the rating for each element. Integrity-only glass is cheaper and thinner, but its use on escape routes is restricted; insulating glass carries far fewer restrictions because people can pass it safely during a fire.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
If an existing frame in a Tonbridge building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
Every quote in Tonbridge identifies the tested system: frame, glass, beads, seals and fixings, within its pane-size limits.
Fire-resistant glass applies to many building types in Tonbridge, including public buildings and hotels.
Ordinary toughened safety glass is not. It can shatter early in a fire. Fire-resistant integrity glass is specially processed or formulated and only gains a rating when fitted in a tested frame and glazing system.
Often, yes. We read the marks on the existing panes and check them against the frame evidence. Where the original product is discontinued we look for an alternative covered by the same evidence or a formal assessment.
Yes. We survey and install in Tonbridge and across Kent, including the TN9 district and nearby Royal Tunbridge Wells.
Yes. We plan phasing, out-of-hours work and temporary protection so the building can stay in use where the fire strategy allows.

We measure each opening in Tonbridge and check what the existing frames can accept.
We set out the system, glass, evidence and programme, with a fixed price.
We install, photograph seals and fixings before closing up, and hand over the schedule.
Send sizes, photos of any glass marks or your inspection report and we will come back with the right tested system.
