We supply and fit fire-resistant glass into new and existing fire-rated frames, matching the glass type, thickness, beads, seals and fixings to the test or assessment evidence for that frame. The glass on its own does not carry a rating; the combination does, so we start every job by identifying the system you have or need.
The fire strategy or building control drawings set the rating for each element. Integrity-only glass is cheaper and thinner, but its use on escape routes is restricted; insulating glass carries far fewer restrictions because people can pass it safely during a fire.
No. A frame is only rated with the glass types and pane sizes it was tested or assessed with. We check the frame's evidence before quoting, and if the existing frame is unknown we say so and price the options.
Glass in doors, side panels and low-level positions has to meet impact safety rules as well as the fire rating. Most modern fire glass carries an impact classification; old wired glass usually does not.
Survey visits can be arranged anywhere in Portsmouth, including the PO5, PO1, PO4, PO2, PO12, PO3 districts, and in nearby Gosport, Fareham, Ryde. Portsmouth lies roughly 25 km from Southampton, within our Hampshire coverage.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Portsmouth budgets are not open-ended.
If an existing frame in a Portsmouth building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
Every quote in Portsmouth identifies the tested system: frame, glass, beads, seals and fixings, within its pane-size limits.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
Fire-resistant glass applies to many building types in Portsmouth, including offices and hotels.
Often, yes. We read the marks on the existing panes and check them against the frame evidence. Where the original product is discontinued we look for an alternative covered by the same evidence or a formal assessment.
Our service is supply and installation, because the rating depends on how the glass is fitted. For trade buyers we can quote supply of cut-to-size panes with the matching glazing materials on request.
