Fire-resistant glass is glazing that has been tested, as part of a complete glazed system, to hold back fire for a set time. It is classified by what it stops: E (integrity) keeps flames and hot gases on the fire side, EW also limits the heat radiated through the glass, and EI (integrity and insulation) also limits the temperature rise on the protected side, so people can pass it more safely.
Many insulating fire glasses use interlayers that need protecting from UV and moisture, so external positions need a product approved for exterior use, with the right edge seal and glazing system.
Insulating fire glass gets thicker and heavier as the rating rises. Large EI 60 and EI 120 panes often need lifting equipment and a frame designed for the load, which we plan before the delivery date.
Most fire glass is permanently marked with its product and classification. We record the marks, pane sizes and evidence references on handover so whoever is responsible for fire safety can show what is installed.
Coverage around London includes the EC1A, EC1M, EC1N, EC1R, EC3, EC4A districts and nearby Westminster, Pimlico, Islington. London is the main town we cover in Greater London.
We can phase work in London around residents, staff or pupils, with out-of-hours options.
Every quote in London identifies the tested system: frame, glass, beads, seals and fixings, within its pane-size limits.
If an existing frame in a London building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
Sector guides below cover blocks of flats, hotels and other buildings in London.
Integrity glass can be similar in thickness to standard glass. Insulating glass is laminated from several layers, so it gets markedly thicker and heavier as the rating increases from EI 30 to EI 120.
Our service is supply and installation, because the rating depends on how the glass is fitted. For trade buyers we can quote supply of cut-to-size panes with the matching glazing materials on request.
