Insulated Fire Glass (EI)
EI 30 to EI 120 glass that blocks heat as well as flames.

Fire-resistant glass is glazing that has been tested, as part of a complete glazed system, to hold back fire for a set time. It is classified by what it stops: E (integrity) keeps flames and hot gases on the fire side, EW also limits the heat radiated through the glass, and EI (integrity and insulation) also limits the temperature rise on the protected side, so people can pass it more safely.
Many insulating fire glasses use interlayers that need protecting from UV and moisture, so external positions need a product approved for exterior use, with the right edge seal and glazing system.
Insulating fire glass gets thicker and heavier as the rating rises. Large EI 60 and EI 120 panes often need lifting equipment and a frame designed for the load, which we plan before the delivery date.
The fire strategy or building control drawings set the rating for each element. Integrity-only glass is cheaper and thinner, but its use on escape routes is restricted; insulating glass carries far fewer restrictions because people can pass it safely during a fire.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.
Whether the building is in central South Ockendon or the wider RM15, RM20, RM19, RM16, RM17 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Grays, Hornchurch, Dartford. South Ockendon lies roughly 30 km from Southend-on-Sea, within our Essex coverage.
You receive the classification references, glass marks and installation photographs for your fire safety records.
Every quote in South Ockendon identifies the tested system: frame, glass, beads, seals and fixings, within its pane-size limits.
If an existing frame in a South Ockendon building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
Sector guides below cover public buildings, care homes and other buildings in South Ockendon.
Integrity glass can be similar in thickness to standard glass. Insulating glass is laminated from several layers, so it gets markedly thicker and heavier as the rating increases from EI 30 to EI 120.
Ordinary toughened safety glass is not. It can shatter early in a fire. Fire-resistant integrity glass is specially processed or formulated and only gains a rating when fitted in a tested frame and glazing system.
Building work in South Ockendon follows the Building Regulations 2010 and Approved Document B, and occupied buildings are covered by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Yes. We plan phasing, out-of-hours work and temporary protection so the building can stay in use where the fire strategy allows.
