Fire-Rated Curtain Walling: an overview for Cheshire

We supply and install fire-rated curtain walling and fire-rated zones within standard curtain walling, alongside the fire-stopping at slab edges. External wall work is closely scrutinised after recent regulatory changes, so every element we fit is backed by evidence for its position.

  • Tested fire-rated curtain wall systems
  • External-grade fire glass
  • Slab-edge fire-stopping and cavity barriers to the design

Before you order in Cheshire

Boundaries

External walls close to a boundary may need to be fire-resisting with limited unprotected areas. Fixed glazing that meets the wall's full fire-resistance requirement, including insulation where required, is not counted as unprotected area, so it can let you keep glass in those positions.

Slab edges

The gap between the curtain wall and each floor slab needs fire-stopping designed with the facade, not added afterwards.

Thermal and acoustic

Fire-rated units can still meet thermal targets when specified correctly; we confirm U-values with the system supplier.

Regulations for Cheshire projects

England Which rules apply?

Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.

Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.

Fire-Rated Curtain Walling in Cheshire: questions

When does curtain walling need to be fire-rated?

Typically where the facade is near a boundary, where it encloses a protected stair or lobby, or where fire spread between floors has to be controlled. The fire strategy sets the requirement.

Do you work on high-rise buildings?

We can supply and install on taller buildings where the project has the required approvals, and we provide evidence suitable for the Building Safety Regulator in England.

Can fire glass be used in double-glazed units?

Yes. External fire-rated glazing is usually supplied as a sealed unit with the fire pane in a tested position.

Do you cover all of Cheshire?

Yes. We take enquiries from across Cheshire, including Warrington and Chester, Crewe, Ellesmere Port, Widnes, and arrange surveys to suit your programme.
