Schools, hospitals, housing blocks and older offices often still have wired glass in doors and corridors. We survey it, confirm what the frames can accept, and replace it with clear integrity or insulating glass that is compatible with the frame and carries an impact classification.
Modern fire glass is clear, so replacements also improve visibility and appearance.
Old frames may not have evidence for modern fire glass. We assess them and recommend frame replacement where the evidence cannot be established.
Wired glass generally provides integrity only. Replacing it lets you keep or improve the fire performance while adding impact safety.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.
Whether the building is in central Eastbourne or the wider BN21, BN22, BN20, BN23 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Hailsham, Seaford, Bexhill-on-Sea. Eastbourne is about 31 km from Brighton, the largest town in our East Sussex coverage.
If an existing frame in a Eastbourne building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
You receive the classification references, glass marks and installation photographs for your fire safety records.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Eastbourne budgets are not open-ended.
We can survey and quote for retail and leisure units, offices and other building types in Eastbourne.
It can provide integrity in the right frame, typically for 30 minutes and sometimes longer in tested systems, but it does not insulate, and plain wired glass usually lacks an impact safety classification.
When broken by impact it can cause serious cuts. That is why it is often replaced in doors and low-level positions.
Building work in Eastbourne follows the Building Regulations 2010 and Approved Document B, and occupied buildings are covered by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
We can give a guide range from photos and sizes, including a clear photo of any marks on the glass. A fixed price follows a survey.
