Integrity Fire Glass (E & EW) by town in Bristol

Across Bristol we can survey in Bristol, the surrounding area and every district in the BS postcode areas.

What our integrity fire glass service includes in Bristol

Integrity fire glass, classified E, stops flames and hot gases passing for the rated time but does not limit the heat coming through. EW glass adds a cap on the heat radiated through the glass. Both are thinner, lighter and cheaper than fully insulated glass.

  • EW laminated glass with radiation control
  • Matched beads and seals
  • Polished wired glass where still appropriate

Key checks for Bristol projects

Not insulating

E glass gets hot in a fire. Furniture or stored materials beside it can ignite from radiated heat.

Limits on escape routes

Building guidance restricts how much integrity-only glass can be used on protected escape routes and where it can sit. Check the route before choosing E glass.

Where integrity glass fits

Integrity-only glass may be acceptable in some fire-resisting partitions, screens and doors, often at high level, within the limits national guidance sets. Compartment walls normally need insulating (EI) glazing.

Regulations for Bristol projects

England Which rules apply?

Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.

Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.

In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.

Questions from Bristol clients

What is integrity-only fire glass?

Glass that stops flames and hot gases for the rated time but lets heat through. It is classified E.

Is integrity glass cheaper?

Yes, considerably, and it is thinner and lighter.

What is the difference between E and EW glass?

EW glass also limits heat radiation through the glass, which reduces the risk to people and materials near it.
