EI glass is the choice where people need to pass close to the glass during a fire, where combustible materials sit near it, or where building guidance would otherwise restrict glazing. We supply and fit EI 30 to EI 120 glass in tested frames, internally and externally.
Insulating fire glass should be stored dry, upright and away from direct sun before fitting.
Modern EI glass is clear in normal use, with high light transmission at lower ratings.
When heated, the interlayers turn opaque and expand, forming an insulating shield. After a fire the glass will need replacing.
We cover Rhondda and the surrounding postcode districts, including CF42, CF43, CF41, CF40. Nearby towns we also serve include Tonypandy, Aberdare, Pontypridd. Rhondda is the largest town in our Mid Glamorgan coverage.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in Wales, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Rhondda budgets are not open-ended.
We can phase work in Rhondda around residents, staff or pupils, with out-of-hours options.
Building regulations are devolved in Wales, so fire safety design follows the Welsh Ministers' version of Approved Document B rather than the English one, alongside impact safety guidance for glazing.
The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 applies in Wales, so the responsible person must maintain fire-resisting glazing as part of the premises' fire safety measures. The Fire Safety Act 2021 confirmed this extends to the structure, external walls and flat entrance doors of multi-occupied residential buildings.
Insulated fire glass applies to many building types in Rhondda, including public buildings and healthcare buildings.
The glazing system kept fire on one side (integrity) and limited the temperature rise on the other side (insulation) for at least 60 minutes in a standard fire test.
Only products approved for external use, usually in a sealed unit with UV protection.
We can give a guide range from photos and sizes, including a clear photo of any marks on the glass. A fixed price follows a survey.
