Integrity and insulating fire glass supplied and fitted into tested frames.
Learn more →Insulated fire glass in Folkestone is usually needed for one of three reasons: new building work, a change to an existing fire-resisting wall, or defects found in an inspection. We handle all three.
Tell us what you need. We reply with next steps and a guide price.
Insulated fire glass, classified EI, is glazing that maintains integrity and keeps the temperature rise on the non-fire side within set limits for the rated time. It is usually made of several glass panes bonded with interlayers that foam into an insulating barrier when heated, or with a clear gel that absorbs heat.
Modern EI glass is clear in normal use, with high light transmission at lower ratings.
Some EI products are internal only. External use needs a product and edge seal approved for UV and weather.
When heated, the interlayers turn opaque and expand, forming an insulating shield. After a fire the glass will need replacing.
Whether the building is in central Folkestone or the wider CT19, CT20, CT50, CT18 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Dover, Ashford, Deal. Maidstone, around 50 km from Folkestone, is the largest town in the same coverage area.
If an existing frame in a Folkestone building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
You receive the classification references, glass marks and installation photographs for your fire safety records.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Folkestone budgets are not open-ended.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.
We can survey and quote for offices, healthcare buildings and other building types in Folkestone.
