Fire-Resistant Glass
Integrity and insulating fire glass supplied and fitted into tested frames.
Learn more →For Grays buildings, we supply, replace and check insulated fire glass wherever the fire strategy depends on it, working to the tested system rather than the glass alone.

Insulated fire glass, classified EI, is glazing that maintains integrity and keeps the temperature rise on the non-fire side within set limits for the rated time. It is usually made of several glass panes bonded with interlayers that foam into an insulating barrier when heated, or with a clear gel that absorbs heat.
When heated, the interlayers turn opaque and expand, forming an insulating shield. After a fire the glass will need replacing.
Each step up in rating adds layers, so EI 120 is far thicker and heavier than EI 30. The frame has to be designed for it.
Modern EI glass is clear in normal use, with high light transmission at lower ratings.
We cover Grays and the surrounding postcode districts, including RM17, RM16, DA10, RM20, RM18, DA9. Nearby towns we also serve include South Ockendon, Gravesend, Dartford. Southend-on-Sea, around 28 km from Grays, is the largest town in the same coverage area.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Grays budgets are not open-ended.
You receive the classification references, glass marks and installation photographs for your fire safety records.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
We can survey and quote for blocks of flats, schools and colleges and other building types in Grays.
The glazing system kept fire on one side (integrity) and limited the temperature rise on the other side (insulation) for at least 60 minutes in a standard fire test.
Only products approved for external use, usually in a sealed unit with UV protection.
Yes. We plan phasing, out-of-hours work and temporary protection so the building can stay in use where the fire strategy allows.
