Insulated fire glass, classified EI, is glazing that maintains integrity and keeps the temperature rise on the non-fire side within set limits for the rated time. It is usually made of several glass panes bonded with interlayers that foam into an insulating barrier when heated, or with a clear gel that absorbs heat.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Eastbourne budgets are not open-ended.
You receive the classification references, glass marks and installation photographs for your fire safety records.
If an existing frame in a Eastbourne building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
Insulating fire glass should be stored dry, upright and away from direct sun before fitting.
Modern EI glass is clear in normal use, with high light transmission at lower ratings.
Some EI products are internal only. External use needs a product and edge seal approved for UV and weather.
Our East Sussex coverage takes in Eastbourne (BN21, BN22, BN20, BN23) and the neighbouring towns of Hailsham, Seaford, Bexhill-on-Sea. Eastbourne is about 31 km from Brighton, the largest town in our East Sussex coverage.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.
Insulated fire glass applies to many building types in Eastbourne, including industrial units and retail and leisure units.
Only products approved for external use, usually in a sealed unit with UV protection.
It is a multi-layer product with specialist interlayers, and the frame and installation must suit its weight.
Survey timing in Eastbourne depends on access, the size of the building and how urgent the defect is. Tell us your deadline when you enquire and we will confirm a date before you commit.
