Insulated Fire Glass (EI)
EI 30 to EI 120 glass that blocks heat as well as flames.
Learn more →If a building in Dudley needs fire-resistant glass, the starting point is the rating its fire strategy requires. We confirm that, survey the openings and quote a tested system to suit.

Fire-resistant glass is glazing that has been tested, as part of a complete glazed system, to hold back fire for a set time. It is classified by what it stops: E (integrity) keeps flames and hot gases on the fire side, EW also limits the heat radiated through the glass, and EI (integrity and insulation) also limits the temperature rise on the protected side, so people can pass it more safely.
Insulating fire glass gets thicker and heavier as the rating rises. Large EI 60 and EI 120 panes often need lifting equipment and a frame designed for the load, which we plan before the delivery date.
The fire strategy or building control drawings set the rating for each element. Integrity-only glass is cheaper and thinner, but its use on escape routes is restricted; insulating glass carries far fewer restrictions because people can pass it safely during a fire.
No. A frame is only rated with the glass types and pane sizes it was tested or assessed with. We check the frame's evidence before quoting, and if the existing frame is unknown we say so and price the options.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.
Whether the building is in central Dudley or the wider DY1, DY2, B64, DY5, B65, DY4 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Brierley Hill, Tipton, Kingswinford. Dudley lies roughly 13 km from Birmingham, within our West Midlands coverage.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
We can phase work in Dudley around residents, staff or pupils, with out-of-hours options.
You receive the classification references, glass marks and installation photographs for your fire safety records.
Sector guides below cover blocks of flats, student accommodation and other buildings in Dudley.
Integrity glass can be similar in thickness to standard glass. Insulating glass is laminated from several layers, so it gets markedly thicker and heavier as the rating increases from EI 30 to EI 120.
Often, yes. We read the marks on the existing panes and check them against the frame evidence. Where the original product is discontinued we look for an alternative covered by the same evidence or a formal assessment.
Yes. We survey and install in Dudley and across West Midlands, including the DY1 district and nearby Brierley Hill.
Yes. We plan phasing, out-of-hours work and temporary protection so the building can stay in use where the fire strategy allows.
