Fire-resistant glass is glazing that has been tested, as part of a complete glazed system, to hold back fire for a set time. It is classified by what it stops: E (integrity) keeps flames and hot gases on the fire side, EW also limits the heat radiated through the glass, and EI (integrity and insulation) also limits the temperature rise on the protected side, so people can pass it more safely.
If an existing frame in a Coleraine building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Coleraine budgets are not open-ended.
Every quote in Coleraine identifies the tested system: frame, glass, beads, seals and fixings, within its pane-size limits.
Most fire glass is permanently marked with its product and classification. We record the marks, pane sizes and evidence references on handover so whoever is responsible for fire safety can show what is installed.
The fire strategy or building control drawings set the rating for each element. Integrity-only glass is cheaper and thinner, but its use on escape routes is restricted; insulating glass carries far fewer restrictions because people can pass it safely during a fire.
Glass in doors, side panels and low-level positions has to meet impact safety rules as well as the fire rating. Most modern fire glass carries an impact classification; old wired glass usually does not.
Survey visits can be arranged anywhere in Coleraine, including the BT51, BT52 districts, and in nearby Ballymena, Derry / Londonderry, Newtownabbey. Coleraine lies roughly 44 km from Derry / Londonderry, within our County Londonderry coverage.
In Northern Ireland, building work follows the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2012, with fire safety guidance in Technical Booklet E, approved by the district council's building control.
Once in use, the Fire and Rescue Services (Northern Ireland) Order 2006 and the Fire Safety Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2010 require the appropriate person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing.
We can survey and quote for offices, retail and leisure units and other building types in Coleraine.
Integrity glass can be similar in thickness to standard glass. Insulating glass is laminated from several layers, so it gets markedly thicker and heavier as the rating increases from EI 30 to EI 120.
E is integrity only: it stops flames and hot gases passing for the rated time. EW adds a limit on radiated heat through the glass. EI adds insulation, keeping the unexposed face below set temperature rises so people can pass it safely. The number after the letters is the time in minutes.
Yes. We survey and install in Coleraine and across County Londonderry, including the BT51 district and nearby Ballymena.
Survey timing in Coleraine depends on access, the size of the building and how urgent the defect is. Tell us your deadline when you enquire and we will confirm a date before you commit.
