Fire-resistant glass is glazing that has been tested, as part of a complete glazed system, to hold back fire for a set time. It is classified by what it stops: E (integrity) keeps flames and hot gases on the fire side, EW also limits the heat radiated through the glass, and EI (integrity and insulation) also limits the temperature rise on the protected side, so people can pass it more safely.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
If an existing frame in a Bletchley building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
You receive the classification references, glass marks and installation photographs for your fire safety records.
Insulating fire glass gets thicker and heavier as the rating rises. Large EI 60 and EI 120 panes often need lifting equipment and a frame designed for the load, which we plan before the delivery date.
Most fire glass is permanently marked with its product and classification. We record the marks, pane sizes and evidence references on handover so whoever is responsible for fire safety can show what is installed.
No. A frame is only rated with the glass types and pane sizes it was tested or assessed with. We check the frame's evidence before quoting, and if the existing frame is unknown we say so and price the options.
Whether the building is in central Bletchley or the wider MK3, MK2, MK1, MK17, MK4, MK7 districts, we can survey and quote. We also cover Milton Keynes, Leighton Buzzard, Ampthill. Milton Keynes, around 6 km from Bletchley, is the largest town in the same coverage area.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.
Fire-resistant glass applies to many building types in Bletchley, including public buildings and schools and colleges.
Our service is supply and installation, because the rating depends on how the glass is fitted. For trade buyers we can quote supply of cut-to-size panes with the matching glazing materials on request.
Often, yes. We read the marks on the existing panes and check them against the frame evidence. Where the original product is discontinued we look for an alternative covered by the same evidence or a formal assessment.
Building work in Bletchley follows the Building Regulations 2010 and Approved Document B, and occupied buildings are covered by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
Yes. We plan phasing, out-of-hours work and temporary protection so the building can stay in use where the fire strategy allows.
