Steel Fire-Rated Screens
Slim steel frames for long spans, high ratings and heavy glass.
Learn more →From the CB21 district outwards, we arrange fire-rated glazed screens for buildings across Cambridge, matching glass, frames and seals to tested evidence rather than guesswork.

A fire-rated glazed screen is an internal wall made largely of glass that forms part of a fire-resisting construction, such as a corridor wall, a stair enclosure or a compartment wall. It lets daylight and sightlines through while holding back fire for the period the fire strategy requires.
A door in a glazed screen has to be tested in that configuration or covered by a doorset certificate and an assessment for the screen. We specify the door and screen as one system rather than mixing products.
Test evidence covers the screen's connection to specific supporting constructions, such as masonry, concrete or a tested partition. Fixing into a lightweight wall that is not covered can undermine the rating, so we check the substrate first.
Long screens under slabs need deflection heads so floor movement does not crack the glass or open gaps. The head detail has to come from the same evidence as the rest of the screen.
Building work in England is covered by the Building Regulations 2010, with fire safety guidance in Approved Document B and impact safety guidance for glazing in Approved Document K.
Once a building is in use, the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 requires the responsible person to maintain fire safety measures, including fire-resisting glazing. The Fire Safety (England) Regulations 2022 add duties for multi-occupied residential buildings, including fire door checks in buildings over 11 metres.
In higher-risk buildings, broadly 18 metres or seven storeys with two or more homes, the Building Safety Regulator is the building control authority. England is also phasing out BS 476 references from Approved Document B, with the remaining fire-resistance references due to go in September 2029.
Our Cambridgeshire coverage takes in Cambridge (CB21, CB2, CB3, CB1, CB4, CB5) and the neighbouring towns of Newmarket, Ely, Huntingdon. Cambridge lies roughly 48 km from Peterborough, within our Cambridgeshire coverage.
Designs follow the building and fire safety rules that apply in England, not a one-size-fits-all approach.
If an existing frame in a Cambridge building has no traceable evidence, we say so and price the options rather than guess.
After survey you get a fixed written quote for the agreed scope, so Cambridge budgets are not open-ended.
We can survey and quote for public buildings, blocks of flats and other building types in Cambridge.
Small screens are often fitted in a day once manufactured. Larger runs depend on site access and phasing; we agree a programme with you when we quote.
They need periodic checks for damaged glass, missing beads, failed seals and unauthorised changes such as new cable holes. We can carry out these checks as part of a survey.
Survey timing in Cambridge depends on access, the size of the building and how urgent the defect is. Tell us your deadline when you enquire and we will confirm a date before you commit.
